About the Program...A Knox Box is a hardened steel case that fits over a resident’s door that can only be accessed by on-duty firefighting and medical personnel. The box generally will contain key(s) to gain entry to the premises.
This has proven beneficial for chronically ill or disabled persons, either temporary or permanently disabled. With use of the Knox Box, the fire or medical personnel will not have to use forcible entry techniques to gain entry to the house, which sometimes leads to damage. The McCook Fire Department provides residential Knox Boxes to our residents for free whom may need this for a short duration for medical purposes. Commercial Knox Boxes
Per Village Ordinance, all businesses shall have a Knox Box affixed
on their property so that the Fire Department may gain emergency
access to the property. This alleviates damage to the property by the
Fire Department when access to the property is needed.
