ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Breast Cancer Awareness - October 2024
Our firefighter/paramedics are proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October. In 2024, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. But there is hope. Advancements in early detection methods and support continue to increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%. Below are the shirts we had made to show our support... |
Fire Prevention Month - 2024
Oct. 6-12 is Fire Prevention Week 2024, a time focused on raising public awareness about fire safety. This year's theme is, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!” aims to educate everyone on the role that functioning smoke alarms play in preventing fatalities during home fires.
The Fire Department will be going door-to-door during the fire prevention week to pass out fire prevention material to all of the residents.

New Ambulance - 2026
The Village Board will be voting on purchasing a new 2026 Ford 550 / Demers Ambulance, which will be completed in Quarter 3 of 2026. This will replace our 2007 ambulance. The new ambulance will "mirror" our current 2022 Ford/Demers.
The Department had only one ambulance with no reserve until 2022, when it purchased it's new ambulance, utilizing the 2007 as a second ambulance when manpower was available.
Moving forward, expanding or maintaining two fully equipped ambulances helps to ensure better coverage, reduced response times, and the ability to handle multiple simultaneous emergencies more effectively. Given how vital EMS is in the overall emergency response system, this move reflects a recognition of the need for a robust pre-hospital care system in the community.
This could not be possible without the support of Mayor Carr and our Village Board!

AFG Grant Award - 2024
Our Department is honored to receive an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) award from FEMA in the amount of $227,714. This grant is a significant achievement and will enable us to make crucial enhancements to firefighter safety and our emergency response capabilities.
With these funds, we plan to invest in equipment that will directly improve the well-being of our firefighters and the service we provide to our community. Specifically, a portion of this grant will be utilized to purchase a power load and power cot system for our second ambulance. This addition will not only improve the safety and efficiency of our EMS team but also ensure that we can better serve patients in need.
